Topics included the new ban on assisted suicide and the refugee crisis. A new board was also elected. The ban on assisted suicide passed by the Bundestag on the previous Friday was unanimously rejected at the regional members’ meeting of the Humanist Association of Thuringia. <\/p>\n

The newly elected state chairman Frank Ro\u00dfner from Magdala appealed to the people of Thuringia to continue to support the Alliance for Self-Determination until the End of Life and to express their protest to Thuringian MPs in particular: Of the 18 members of the Bundestag from Thuringia, 11 voted in favor of the new ban: among them the parliamentary group leader of B\u00fcndnis 90\/DieGr\u00fcnen, Katrin G\u00f6ring-Eckardt, who is based in Thuringia, as well as CDU member of the Bundestag Antje Tillmann from Erfurt.<\/p>\n

The general meeting decided by a large majority to support the alliance
\n Mitmenschlich in Th\u00fcringen – for a Thuringia of democracy, diversity and humanity<\/a>
\n<\/em> support. The new Deputy Chairman of the Executive Board, Christoph Schwarze, explained: “We firmly reject all inhumane positions characterized by nationalism and racism that are incompatible with the principles of humanism. I am therefore delighted that the motion to sign the alliance was so well received by the members.” <\/p>\n

Sven Wirzbowitz (Treasurer), Rainer Thorwirth (Assessor) and Maximilian Steinhaus (Assessor) were elected as further members of the new Board. Angela Wollmann and Frank Schneider were unanimously appointed as members of the Audit Committee, as were all elected Board members. The next Annual General Meeting is planned for April 2016 in order to expand the work of the Humanists in Thuringia. <\/p>\n\n
