“Democracy cannot be taken for granted,” writes Christiane Friedrich, board member of the Humanistischer Verband Deutschlands \u2013 Bundesverband, in the editorial of the \n this side<\/a>\n<\/em>. She continues: “Even in a democratic state like the Federal Republic of Germany, every individual must stand up for it. It is not enough to just enjoy the pleasant aspects of the existing democracy, but otherwise do nothing actively to preserve it. Here, too, it means taking active action and standing up vehemently when democracy is attacked or even damaged.” <\/p>\n\n
