The so-called Stünker draft for the revision of care law, which focuses on the patient’s declaration of intent as an autonomous decision by the individual, received the required majority in a roll-call vote without the need for a parliamentary group.
Dr. Horst Groschopp, President of the Humanist Association of Germany (HVD), explains:
“Many people have been waiting urgently for political regulation of living wills. The Humanist Association welcomes the regulation found after more than 5 years of political opinion-forming as a good sign for our democracy. Thanks to an alliance for autonomy at the end of life, it was possible to avert failure at the last minute. It will now be a matter of meeting a high demand for qualified advice in practice.
The HVD is well prepared for this. Above all, we expect citizens to review and adapt their existing living wills.”
