Millions of humanists celebrate World Humanist Day

"We humanists are here and we celebrate our values. We are not just the non-religious remnant - we are a community of values with a rich history, an active present and a hopeful future. And we can be proud of that. Happy Humanist Day!"

“World Humanist Day is an opportunity to take a step back from everyday life and realize once again that, as part of a great international community of humanists, we don’t have to fight for our values alone.” This was said today by the President of the Humanist Association of Germany, Florian Zimmermann, on the occasion of World Humanist Day on June 21.

Since 1986, the Day of the Summer Solstice has been celebrated every year by millions of humanists around the world. The humanist holiday offers the opportunity to reflect on the importance of humanist ideas and beliefs, to raise public awareness of humanism as a worldview and philosophical approach to life and to spread the central values and principles of humanism. Events and festivals are held throughout Germany to mark the occasion.

“When we celebrate together in public today or at the weekend, it also sends a signal to society,” emphasized Zimmermann. “We humanists are here and we celebrate our values. We are not just the non-religious remnant – we are a community of values with a rich history, an active present and a hopeful future. And we can be proud of that. Happy Humanist Day!”
