The first call for applications is open: Committed young people can apply to the Bertha von Suttner-Studienwerk until July 31, 2021. They should have performed very well at school, during their studies or in extracurricular or non-university activities. In addition, social commitment, a critical approach to the major issues of life and a keen interest in interdisciplinary discourse play an important role at the BvS.
Students from all subject areas, first-year students and doctoral candidates are eligible. However, as the Bertha von Suttner-Studienwerk, unlike the religiously-oriented funding organizations, does not yet receive any state funding, doctoral candidates and students can currently only be supported with a grant of 300 euros per month. The standard funding period is two years, the minimum funding period is 12 months.
Apply now!
Applying for the Suttner Scholarship is straightforward and is explained on this application page. From August 1, the selection committee of the Studienwerk will review the applications received. Those who have passed this first round of the selection process will receive an invitation to an online interview. “There’s no need to be afraid of this,” says the BvS board, “because humanists don’t bite!” The Studienwerk wants to avoid long waiting times: The ten “Suttner Scholarship Holders of 2021” should be selected by the end of September so that the funding can flow in time for the start of the winter semester.
The Bertha von Suttner-Studienwerk (BvS) was founded in 2021 by the Humanist Association of Germany (HVD), the Giordano Bruno Foundation (gbs), the Humanist Academy of Germany (HAD) and the Federal Association of Humanist Students (BAG). With its help, humanist students should receive the same support as their religious fellow students. The BvS is supported by numerous public figures, including many academics.
