Until July 31, 2022, committed young people can once again apply to the Bertha von Suttner-Studienwerk They should have performed very well at school, during their studies or in extracurricular or non-university activities. In addition, social commitment, a critical approach to the big questions of human existence and a keen interest in interdisciplinary discourse play an important role at the BvS.
Students from all subject areas, first-year students and doctoral candidates are eligible. As the Bertha von Suttner-Studienwerk, unlike the religiously oriented funding organizations, does not yet receive any state funding, doctoral candidates and students can currently only be supported with a grant of 300 euros per month. The standard funding period is two years, the minimum funding period is 12 months.
Apply now!
Applying for the Suttner Scholarship is straightforward and is explained on this application page. From August 1, the selection committee of the Studienwerk will review the applications received. Those who have passed this first round of the selection process will receive an invitation to an online interview. By the end of September, the ten “Suttner Scholars of the Year 2022” will have been selected so that the funding can be awarded in time for the start of the 2022/23 winter semester.
The first call for applications for the Suttner Scholarship last year was already very successful: around 160 students and doctoral candidates submitted their documents in 2021, from which the ten best candidates were selected to receive funding from the Bertha von Suttner-Studienwerk since October 2021. Among them are first-year students and doctoral candidates, students of physics, computer science, biology and medicine as well as psychology, philosophy and education.
The Bertha von Suttner-Studienwerk (BvS) was founded in 2021 by the Humanist Association of Germany (HVD), the Giordano Bruno Foundation (gbs), the Humanist Academy of Germany (HAD) and the Federal Association of Humanist Students (BAG). With its help, humanist students should receive the same support as their religious fellow students. The BvS is supported by a renowned advisory board and numerous public figures, including many academics.
