At the digital Council of Delegates of the Humanist Association of Germany on May 17, 2025, two new federal commissioners were introduced: for the history of humanism and for humanist hospice work. The European Humanist Services Network (EHSN) - a European network for humanist professionals - was also presented.

The delegates of the member organizations of the Humanist Association of Germany met on 17 May for the digital Council of Delegates. The meeting focused on the introduction of the two new federal representatives and the presentation of the European Humanist Services Network (EHSN).

Sabine Sebayang takes on the role of Federal Representative for Humanist Hospice Work. She heads the Humanist Hospices department at the Humanist Association Berlin-Brandenburg and is also involved in the Federal Children’s Hospice Association. In her new role, she would like to act as a contact person for the topics of dying, death and mourning, promote the networking of country-specific hospice work and strengthen a nationwide network of humanist support services.

Olaf Schlunke M.A., historian and archivist, has been active in the Humanist Association Berlin-Brandenburg since 2018 and heads the association’s cultural history archive, which will open in 2022. As the Federal Commissioner for the History of Humanism, his aims include networking the archives of the regional associations, setting up a historical working group at federal level and promoting international exchange on the history of humanism.

Another focus of the Council of Delegates was the presentation of the European Humanist Services Network. Lone Ree Milkær, Network Manager for Humanist Professionals at the EHSN, presented the network, which was founded in early 2024. It currently unites 19 humanist organizations from all over Europe – including the Humanist Association of Germany – Federal Association. The aim is to make high-quality humanist services such as in the areas of humanist existential care, youth activities and ceremonies visible and accessible throughout Europe. The focus is on project-related, transnational cooperation.

With the introduction of the new Federal Commissioner and its participation in the EHSN, the Humanist Association of Germany is strengthening its nationwide thematic work and European networking in the spirit of modern, life-oriented humanism.
