The legalization of abortions has failed for the time being. Despite all the disillusionment following the hearing in the Legal Affairs Committee, the Humanist Association of Germany – Federal Association, together with many civil society organizations, is not discouraged by the politicians.

The Humanist Association of Germany – Federal Association is aware of its responsibility towards people and the environment. Climate, environmental and animal issues are playing an increasingly important role in the association. In its greeting for the new year, the Federal Executive Board focuses on climate protection and social justice.

The Humanist Friday Salon on May 3 is dedicated to humanist-philosophical perspectives on animal ethics. The keynote speech will be given by Dorothea Winter, research associate at the Humanistische Hochschule Berlin. The digital event is open to all interested parties after registration.

This year, we are celebrating World Humanist Day on June 21, 2024 with a major future congress in Berlin.

In a joint statement to the Human Rights Council of the United Nations (UN), the Humanist Association of Germany (HVD) and Humanists International praised the Federal Republic of Germany for its declared commitment to reproductive rights. At the same time, they called for the decriminalization of abortion in Germany.

Our partner organization Humanists International has published the Freedom of Thought Report 2023. The report examines the freedom and human rights of humanists, atheists and non-religious people worldwide. The focus of this year’s report is on the defense of democracy.
