On Saturday, July 2, 2022, the delegates of the HVD regional associations met in Hanover for the Council of Delegates (DR), the highest body of the HVD Federal Association. One of the most important results of the DR was the by-election of a board member for the Worldview working area, which had been dormant since the death of our colleague Andreas Henschel last October. Board Spokesman Erwin Kress congratulated Christian Lührs, the Chairman of the HVD Hamburg, on his election: “We are delighted to have gained a committed and hands-on colleague for the Federal Board in Christian Lührs – we look forward to working with him in the future.”
The first project, which was the brainchild of Christian Lührs, has already been implemented: At the Council of Delegates, the HVD Forum as a new place for internal exchange among HVD members. All members of the state and regional associations of the HVD are invited to join in the discussion, ask questions and are also welcome to make suggestions and recommendations. The forum can be accessed at forum.humanismus.de.
The open and approachable atmosphere at the Council of Delegates, which was able to take place in person for the first time since the start of the pandemic, also showed how important and beneficial direct and personal exchange is. For example, a discussion regarding the possible new regulation of abortion, which is currently regulated in Section 218 of the German Criminal Code, was very constructive. The debate at the Council of Delegates served to identify detailed questions and open points that still need to be clarified. The Federal Executive Board was confident that a common position would be found here, which could then be adopted at the next Council of Delegates this year.
The HVD Federal Association would like to thank the HVD Lower Saxony for the opportunity to meet at Haus Humanitas in Hanover!
