Dear humanists,
On June 24, 2023, we will celebrate an important milestone for the Humanist Association of Germany with the founding of the HVD Federal Association in 1993: 30 years of commitment to humanism, human rights and the promotion of humanist values. In conjunction with World Humanist Day on 21 June, we would like to take this anniversary as an opportunity to recognize the important role of the association and highlight the values it embodies.
The Humanist Association of Germany is a community of people who are committed to a world in which reason, compassion and justice take center stage. At a time when religious and ideological diversity is omnipresent, humanism plays an important role in promoting respectful coexistence and recognizing the dignity of every individual.
Bild: privatHumanism stands for the strengthening of human rights and the guarantee of equal rights and opportunities for all people, regardless of their origin, religion or ideology. It is committed to social justice, gender equality and freedom of thought and expression. These values are indispensable for shaping a fairer and more humane society.
The 30 years of the HVD Bundesverband have been characterized by tireless commitment, progress and a constant striving for change. The association has created a platform where people come together to raise their voices and stand up for a world characterized by mutual respect and humanity. Through educational work, advisory services and social commitment, the HVD contributes to making humanism known as a life-affirming and valuable way of thinking and acting. In the regional associations, this important work is carried out by many full-time employees and even more volunteers.
Nevertheless, much remains to be done. Climate change, social inequality, discrimination and conflicts present us with major challenges. Humanism offers us an orientation to meet these challenges. By focusing on the shared values of reason, compassion and justice, we can bring about positive change and create a more sustainable and just world.
World Humanist Day and the 30th anniversary of the HVD Federal Association remind us that we as human beings have a responsibility to actively shape our world and work for the good of all. Let us work together to spread humanist values, promote dialog and create a society in which the dignity of every individual is respected. Let us continue to work for a more humanistic and just future!
With this in mind, I wish all humanists a wonderful World Humanist Day with inspiring encounters!
Your
Christiane Herrmann
