Humanists International

Humanists International is a worldwide association of humanists. Over 170 associations and societies from 40 countries are involved in the non-governmental organization, representing non-denominational and non-religious people worldwide. The aim of the organization, originally founded in 1952 as the “International Humanist and Ethical Union” (IHEU). International Humanist and Ethical Union) is to defend human rights and democracy on a global level. Since 2019, the organization has been operating under its new name Humanists International.

According to its statutes, Humanists International aims to “build a more humane society through ethics based on human and natural values in the spirit of reason and the free formation of opinion through human capacities.” The organization supports people worldwide who are persecuted and threatened because of their commitment.

Humanists International has consultative status with the United Nations and the Council of Europe and can thus introduce its agenda into international politics. Regular events, such as the World Humanist Congress, enable humanists to network across borders.
