The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child was adopted on November 20, 1989. Much has been achieved in these 35 years – but the central demand to finally enshrine children’s rights in the Basic Law remains unfulfilled. The next Federal Government must urgently implement it.

Abortion should be regulated, but not by means of criminal law, according to the tenor of the evening event “Women’s rights and fetus protection!” organized by the Humanist Association of Germany – Federal Association and the Humanist Academy of Germany. “With our event, we wanted to send a positive impulse to the political actors in particular after the traffic light exit. We therefore very much welcome the cross-party initiative to decriminalize abortion that was announced this morning,” says Katrin Raczynski from the board of the Humanist Association of Germany – Federal Association. “In yesterday’s panel discussion, the need to cover the costs of contraceptives and the inclusion of abortions in medical training were called for from a medical, legal and ethical perspective.”

When it comes to the decriminalization of abortion, the coalition has so far lacked the joint initiative to push the issue forward.
The Humanist Association of Germany is calling for a fundamental change in the law outside of criminal law based on convincing and consensual proposals.

The Humanist Association of Germany – Federal Association considers the replacement of the old historical state benefits to be necessary.
“In view of the changed and ever-changing ideological landscape in all parts of Germany, a solution that is understood and supported by a majority of the population is unavoidable,” explains board spokesman Erwin Kress.

More than 1,200 guests from all over the world are taking part in today’s Future Congress at the Futurium in Berlin to mark World Humanist Day. Under the title “No future? Without us!”, the congress will focus on topics such as education, human rights, AI and the climate. Participants include the American sociologist Phil Zuckerman, the transformation researcher Maja Göpel, the criminal biologist Mark Benecke and the philosopher Julian Nida-Rümelin as well as humanists from Germany and many other countries.
