We interviewed the parties on eight key issues: democracy, social justice, respect for humanist world views, climate policy, refugees and asylum, children’s rights, reproductive rights and assisted dying. The political positions are compared with each other and can be understood in detail.
The selection of topics also offers added value compared to the election manifestos of the parties, which do not address all of the topics we asked about. For example, the CDU/CSU do not address abortion in their manifesto, but they do in their response to the HVD.
As a non-partisan ideological association, the HVD does not endorse any particular party. However, the election test stones are intended to provide information on which parties credibly represent humanist values and the interests of non-denominational voters.
“Of course, the parties should be judged above all by their actions,” explains Erwin Kress, spokesperson for the board of the HVD Federal Association. “And although we know that the parties don’t always do what they promise, we hope that our election test stones can provide all interested voters with guidance for an informed election decision.”
