With the presentation of the anthology “Assistance for all: Humanist military chaplaincy in the Bundeswehr”, the Humanist Association of Germany – Federal Association highlighted the need for contemporary, humanist military chaplaincy in Berlin on Thursday evening. The event made it clear that humanist pastoral care is not seen as a counter-model, but as a professional supplement to existing services.

The Humanist Association of Germany – Federal Association and the Humanist Academy of Germany cordially invite you to the evening event “Support for all: Humanist military chaplaincy in the Bundeswehr”. The focus will be on the question of why the Bundeswehr, if it wants to appeal to all levels of society, also needs humanist chaplaincy – and why this debate is particularly necessary right now.

Investments in children and young people are investments in prosperity and democracy. In a joint appeal, 49 organizations and three academics call on the German government to massively strengthen the social infrastructure for children and families with comprehensive structural reforms.

The Humanist Association of Germany – Federal Association warns against the planned suspension of family reunification for persons entitled to subsidiary protection. The measure violates the human right to family reunification, affects particularly vulnerable people and jeopardizes social cohesion.

Our partner organization Humanists International has published the Freedom of Thought Report 2024, which examines the global situation of freedom and human rights of humanists, atheists and non-religious people. This year’s report places a particular focus on the worrying role of blasphemy laws in restricting human rights.

In the case of abnormal fetal prenatal diagnostic findings, a late termination of pregnancy is always possible and is often even suggested. However, if continuing the pregnancy is unbearable for the pregnant woman for other reasons, a train ticket to the Netherlands is often the only option for an abortion. The Federal Commissioner for Women* and Diversity of the Humanist Association of Germany, Dr. Christine Zunke, emphasizes: “What we primarily need is not a new indication regulation, but a different practice.”

In the current debate on migration and integration, the Humanist Association of Germany – Federal Association appeals to politicians and society to face these challenges with courage, understanding and empathy. It is time for a wake-up call: humanity and common sense must not fall by the wayside.
