Council of Delegates 2025: Exchange and appreciation for the regional associations

DR 2025
Delegates from almost all state associations of the Humanist Association of Germany met in Berlin to discuss the work of the federal association and to strengthen cooperation between the federal and state levels.

On Saturday, 29 November 2025, the delegates of the member organizations of the Humanist Association of Germany met at the Humanist Education Campus in Berlin for the Council of Delegates. Together with the Federal Executive Board, they discussed the work of the past year and current developments.

The management of the state associations and the federal representatives of the Humanist Association of Germany had already met with the Federal Executive Board the day before. It became clear how diverse and at the same time closely interlinked the experiences and expertise in the central practical humanist fields of work are. The evening was opened by the Islamic scholar Prof. Dr. Riem Spielhaus from Göttingen with a lecture on Islam in Germany.

On Saturday, the Council of Delegates began after the founding event for the future public corporation. One focus was the integration of the expertise of the regional associations and specialist committees, which had already begun the day before. The specialist committees Pastoral Care in Institutions, Human End of Life, Humanist Celebration Culture, Women, Children, Diversity, Podcast Humanism to go and Animal Ethics presented their work to date. Whether it is about support in difficult life situations, ethical orientation in our pluralistic society or forms of humanistic mediation – together, the specialist committees help to raise the professional profile of the federal association. The regional associations also benefit directly from this interaction, which pools knowledge, broadens perspectives and makes the association fit for the future.

This year’s Council of Delegates made it clear how important good cooperation between the federal and state levels is for the successful work of the association and recognized the high level of commitment of the state associations.
