The Humanist Relief Organization Germany is responding to the great need in India and is calling for donations for the country shaken by the coronavirus pandemic.

Katrin Raczynski, President of the Humanist Relief Organization Germany: “Any humanitarian aid that is provided now must also aim to improve living conditions in the long term. For us, humanitarianism is non-negotiable – helping is a matter of course, any support is an act of solidarity that holds the world together in a situation of great need.”

Dr. Volker Mueller, Chairman of the Humanistischer Freidenkerbund Havelland e.V., which has been involved in international humanitarian work for many years, adds: “In India, a humanitarian disaster is destroying the lives of tens of thousands of people. The coronavirus is raging, with drastic economic and social consequences for the population. We are cooperating with one of the Atheist Center’s social welfare organizations, VASORD (VASAVYA Society for Rural Development). Among other things, the organization takes care of hygiene and health education in the villages as well as education for children and young adults. In Covid times, VASORD organizes online teaching opportunities for pupils and the distribution of masks. It also supports a hospital in Vijayawada.”

The Humanist Relief Organization Germany has set itself the task of organizing aid after disasters and in other humanitarian emergencies, for example, and improving living conditions.

The aid organization wants to help people to lead a life in dignity and acts in the spirit of humanism, tolerance and solidarity. In order to be able to do this successfully, we ask for financial support. At the same time, we welcome new volunteers who would like to get involved with the charity.

The appeal for donations and further information can be found on the website of Humanistisches Hilfswerk Deutschland at www.humanistisches-hilfswerk.de.

Particularly in times of political and social uncertainty, hard-won rights come under pressure. The association calls for these achievements to be actively defended and for ways to be found to deal with the challenges of the present – without falling back into outdated gender roles.
