Humanist Association initiates alliance for sexual self-determination

Alliance calls for modern and enlightened gender and family policy.

“Sexual self-determination is a human right – living and loving without paternalism” is the title of a recently adopted alliance declaration, which has so far been joined by ten counseling centers, networks and institutions as well as numerous named supporters.

The alliance calls on “the federal government and the political parties to ensure that women and couples can decide on their family planning without having to fear or suffer discrimination and receive support in exercising their rights, regardless of their origin, sexual orientation or social, economic and health situation.” Gender- and culturally sensitive sex education in schools, contraceptives as a health insurance benefit, the prescription-free distribution of the morning-after pill, the removal of §218 from the penal code and social and economic state support for all people who decide to have a child are among the alliance’s concrete demands. The alliance is also calling for a rally at the Brandenburg Gate on September 21 to draw attention to the growing political and social influence of religious fundamentalist groups. On the same day, these groups will demonstrate with a so-called “March for Life” for a complete ban on the right to abortion throughout Europe. In the run-up to the march, a panel discussion will take place on September 18, 2013 at 7 pm at the Urania Berlin on the new influence of Christian fundamentalists. Further information:
