Ladies and Gentlemen,
On the occasion of a necessary new regulation after the possible abolition of § 218 StGB, we would like to cordially invite you to our evening event “Women’s rights and fetus protection!“ on November 13, 2024 in Berlin.
The Commission on Reproductive Self-Determination and Reproductive Medicine has set the course for this. According to this, the foetus has a right to protection that increases with its development, whereby abortion in the late phase of pregnancy should only be legally possible on the basis of a medical indication. In the early stages of pregnancy, abortion should be legal on the basis of the pregnant woman’s right to privacy. In addition, the commission envisages a wide margin of discretion for the legislator, particularly with regard to the obligation to provide counseling, criminal liability of doctors after exceeding the time limit and the redesign of the indication regulation.
Our event is intended to help shed more light on this framework.
Concerns and demands will be discussed from a medical, ethical, women’s rights, constitutional and ideological perspective.
The statement of the Humanist Association of Germany for the commission can be read
The evening will be hosted by Dr. phil. Christine Zunke, our Federal Commissioner for Women* and Diversity. After the keynote speech by Prof. Hartmut Kreß, Carmen Wegge (SPD), member of the Bundestag, will explain the current political situation. In the subsequent panel discussion, we look forward to a multi-faceted debate with representatives from Terre des Femmes, the German Medical Association, the German Women Lawyers’ Association, the Humanist Association of Germany and systematic theology from a Protestant perspective. At the end of the event, you in the audience will also be able to ask questions and take part in the discussion.
