Humanists mourn the death of Werner Lange

The philosopher and ethicist, who had been active for the association for many years, passed away in Halle (Saale) on October 20, 2016.

The Humanist Regional Association Halle-Saalkreis mourns the death of Prof. Dr. Werner Lange, who passed away on Thursday before last at the age of 81. With his passing, we have lost a committed, always helpful and prudent person and a good friend. He rendered outstanding services as a founding member of the association in Halle and in the consultations on living wills. As Chairman of the Board for many years, he was an active campaigner for the association and humanism in numerous discussions and encounters that we will never forget. On International Women’s Day, the Humanist Association of Germany reminds us that the progress made towards equality for women cannot be taken for granted. Particularly in times of political and social uncertainty, hard-won rights come under pressure. The association calls for these achievements to be actively defended and for ways to be found to deal with the challenges of the present – without falling back into outdated gender roles.
