25 years of the Federal Association

The Humanist Association of Germany had two reasons to celebrate last Sunday.

Firstly, the Humanist Association Berlin-Brandenburg has been recognized as a corporation under public law. Prior to this, the Berlin Senate Administration had spent four years intensively examining whether the association met the conditions for recognition as a corporation. Cultural Senator Dr. Klaus Lederer congrat ulated the association once again on this success at a ceremony.

Secondly, the Humanist Association of Germany celebrated its 25th anniversary as a federal association. Exactly on January 14, 1993, seven associations whose free-religious, free-thinking and humanist tradition goes back to the 19th century joined forces. So it makes sense to celebrate together on this historic date.

In addition to guests from politics and culture, Andrew Copson, President of the International Humanist and Ethical Union (IHEU), the global federation of humanist associations, also attended the celebratory program. In his speech, he drew attention to the different situations but also the similarities. For example, humanists in Nigeria received state recognition at almost the same time after many years of political wrangling.
