Animal ethics

Reducing animal suffering, taking responsibility. The Humanist Association of Germany - Federal Association presents its "Animal Ethics" expert committee.

Most of us are used to eating animals from an early age. But are we allowed to do so just because it is tradition? There have been reasons in human history that justify this. But what about today? What could a society look like that takes real responsibility for the welfare of other living beings? How can we take the first steps towards achieving this vision? We have founded the Animal Ethics Committee to answer these questions.

A first milestone in 2024 was an ethical elaboration for vegan-vegetarian catering on behalf of the Humanist Regional Association Berlin-Brandenburg: a clear signal for living animal ethics. Our aim is to use humanistic impulses to help shape a fairer relationship between humans and animals in society. We trust that people who seriously engage with animal ethics often change their everyday habits.

If you want to play an active role in shaping animal ethics, contribute your own ideas or inspire people to act responsibly, then join us! We welcome new, motivated and committed perspectives. Get in touch with us at hvd@humanismus.de.
